Queensland’s public service is now the biggest on record but less than a third of new positions are frontline as Annastacia Palaszczuk tries to use the coverage of the Trump inauguration to hide ballooning bureaucracy.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson said that once again this bad Labor Government and its warped sense of priorities had been exposed.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk’s ballooning bureaucracy shows no sign of bursting,” he said.

“We all know that she is hiring more and more bureaucrats to hide the rising unemployment rate in Queensland.

“Public service numbers at the end of the September quarter were 212,853, an increase of 721 on the previous quarter, and the biggest public service in Queensland history.

“But 518 of those positions, or more than two-thirds of the new positions, are desk bound with just 202 added to the frontline.”

Mr Emerson said Queenslanders have a right to be furious about the rise and rise of corporate back-of-house positions while on the frontlines, vital services were denied.

“While the public service is now the biggest on record, there is no improvement in services with rises in crime rates, the rail fail and child safety cases not being dealt with,” he said.

“These figures confirm what many Queenslanders already suspected – that we are seeing a return to the bad old days of Queensland Labor.

“We know why Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is trying to hide these statistics, because they show yet another blowout in the public service under her watch.”
