Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is pleased to announce the South Burnett Regional Council has been awarded $455,923 through the first funding tranche of the Crisafulli Government’s Multicultural Connect Grants program.
The Crisafulli Government is investing in community infrastructure projects that break down barriers, strengthen social cohesion and support welcoming and inclusive communities across Queensland.
The funding will support the construction of a multipurpose stage in Memorial Park, Kingaroy, creating a community space that can be utilised by everyone and helping to bring people together through cultural, community and recreational activities.
Mrs Frecklington said the investment demonstrated the positive outcomes that can be achieved when local and state governments work together.
“When Council and the State Government work together, our communities benefit,” Mrs Frecklington said.
“This funding will help provide a community space that can be utilised by everyone, creating opportunities for people to come together and connect.”
Minister for Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson said the first tranche of funding delivered through the Multicultural Connect Grants program would empower communities to lead projects that create welcoming spaces and foster a stronger sense of belonging.
“These community-led projects will create spaces where people can connect, participate in sport and cultural activities, and build a real sense of belonging,” Minister Simpson said.
The South Burnett Regional Council project is one of a number of initiatives being supported through the program, with all successful projects receiving matched funding from the local organisation.
Under the grants program, recipients contribute funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis alongside the Crisafulli Government, ensuring strong local partnerships and community ownership of the projects being delivered.
