Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is encouraging residents across the region to have their say on the future of the Wide Bay Burnett – including South Burnett and Cherbourg Council areas, following the release of the Crisafulli Government’s draft Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan.

The draft Regional Plan delivers a 20-year vision for the region and outlines strategic priorities for housing, economic growth, agriculture, ecotourism, healthy and liveable communities, and the infrastructure needed to support future growth.

Ms Frecklington said the plan was an important step in ensuring regional communities remain at the centre of planning decisions.

“This plan gives our regional communities confidence that we’re listening to them and we have a plan for their future. This is about ensuring better coordination for our long-term infrastructure needs across the region,” Deb said.

“The draft plan recognises the strong connections between communities throughout the Wide Bay Burnett and aims to support sustainable growth while protecting the characteristics that make our region unique” said Deb.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said community input would play a vital role in shaping the final plan.

“This region is one of Queensland’s most diverse and productive, and this plan will help support its strengths across agriculture, manufacturing, resources, tourism and emerging industries.

“For the first time, land use planning will also include a supporting infrastructure plan in response to local government and industry feedback.”

Public consultation on the draft Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan and Infrastructure Plan 2026 is now open and will run until Monday, 14 September 2026.

Mrs Frecklington encourages residents, businesses, community groups and stakeholders to review the plan and provide feedback.
