Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has welcomed the Crisafulli Government’s record investment in planned burning, with important fuel reduction work taking place across the Nanango electorate.
Planned burns have recently been carried out by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service fire rangers across a number of local national parks to help reduce bushfire risk ahead of what is expected to be a hot and dry fire season.
Ms Frecklington said the work played a vital role in protecting local communities, landholders, businesses and the environment.
“Fire doesn’t recognise park boundaries. Planned burns are one of the most effective ways to reduce bushfire risk and improve community safety before the fire season begins,” Deb said.
“I want to thank our dedicated fire rangers for the important work they do across our region to help protect people, property and our natural environment.”
“Reducing fuel loads now helps make our national parks and neighbouring areas safer in the months ahead.”
Ms Frecklington said the Crisafulli Government had strengthened Queensland’s bushfire preparedness by securing the future of 40 specialist fire ranger positions that had been left unfunded by the former Labor Government.
The decision to strengthen frontline capability means Queensland is in a better position to prepare for and respond to bushfire risks.
