Swimming and water safety programs for students

30th August 2018

“We welcome Labor’s belated support for the LNP plan to ensure all primary school kids attending public schools have access to swimming lessons.

“It’s disappointing that it has taken more than six months for Annastacia Palaszczuk to show bi-partisan support for this important initiative.

“If Labor had acted earlier, this important program could have been in place ahead of summer this year.

“The LNP backed the swimming campaign since February this year and has been calling on Labor to act ever since.

“This is an issue that’s above politics and will help protect our kids.

“Sadly, nineteen Queensland children died from drowning in Queensland last year, up from nine the previous year.

“We owe it to our kids to give them an important life skill that delivers health and lifestyle benefits as well.

“Promoting water safety and education for our kids is important to help them gain confidence in and around the water, especially in a state like Queensland.”
