De Brenni botches building process

7th May 2019

Embattled Housing Minister Mick De Brenni has once again shown he’s not up to the task, as another major blunder rocks his portfolio.

Tens of thousands of Queenslanders are facing the prospect of paying around $4000, to prove their unit or townhouse doesn’t have combustible cladding.

If the cladding is in the home, then the owner is facing $60,000 in repair work.
Shadow Minister for Housing and Public Works Michael Hart said it’s been a floored process with no consultation.

“I am all about safety and combustible cladding must be eliminated,” Mr Hart said today.

“We don’t want to see the tragic events of Grenfell from two years ago, here in Queensland.

“The main issue though, is the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s failure to talk to the people this will impact.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Mick De Brenni can’t manage serious issues like this one.

“Thousands of Queenslanders are being left in limbo and their household budgets could soon cop a nasty whack, all because Labor has stuffed-up a straight forward process.

“Some buildings have been forced to move to Part 2 of the process, costing $3000 each, after missing Part 1 of the deadline or having issues understanding the poorly worded information website.

“At the very least, I’m calling on Mick De Brenni to pause the process to give people more time to complete part 1 and fix the ambiguity in the online form.

“The Minister needs to give more time to these home owners.

“This is a complex issue that needs explaining and significant consultation.

“Safety is absolutely paramount.

“But the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s typical mismanagement and lack of consultation is unacceptable.

“Queenslanders deserve better, especially those who are facing massive bills to ensure their unit is safe.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk must flick Mick, he’s out of his depth.”
