Straddie tax locked-in by Labor

23rd October 2019

Annastacia Palaszczuk’s obsession with slugging more taxes on Queenslanders continued today, after Labor voted in favour of the Straddie Tax.

LNP Shadow Environment Minister David Crisafulli said Labor MP’s like Don Brown, Kim Richards and Mick De Brenni who talked up a big game had a chance to kill off the tax hike, but instead towed the party line.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk is addicted to tax,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“This is a heartless hit to the hip-pocket for holiday-makers in the lead up to Christmas and that’s why the LNP moved a disallowance motion.

“Labor will never learn. We need to promote North Stradbroke Island, not tax it into oblivion.

“Queenslanders have a right to be asking what new tax Labor will think of next.

“The LNP has already made a solid commitment that we will not introduce a single new tax, if we win the October 2020 election.”

LNP Member for Oodgeroo Mark Robinson said Annastacia Palaszczuk and Kate Jones have their heads stuck in the Straddie sand.

“I’ve met with island residents who’ve described Labor’s new tax as callous and cruel,” Mr Robinson said.

“Labor’s decision to jack up vehicle beach permits from $47 to $158 is disgraceful.

“The consultation process was a complete sham and it proves how out of touch the Palaszczuk Labor Government is.

“It’s an unnecessary and toxic tax that will do more harm than good.

“Nine new or increased taxes have been hurled at Queenslanders since the election and it’s no wonder our jobless rate is the worst in the country.

“You can’t trust Labor with taxpayers’ money or creating jobs.”
