Traffic and rail chaos the new norm under Labor

14th March 2018

LNP Shadow Transport Minister Steve Minnikin said another nightmare morning on south east Queensland trains and roads had highlighted Labor’s total inaction in addressing SEQ congestion.

"I feel for all those caught up in Labor’s latest road and rail fail but sadly it’s becoming the new norm for south east Queenslanders," Mr Minnikin said.

"No wonder our roads are so clogged because unfortunately no one can trust our rail network anymore.

"It’s such a shame that Brisbane trains have gone from a 96% on time running performance under the LNP to 470 fewer services per week and the nightmare we have now under Annastacia Palaszczuk.

"We also built and opened an entirely new line for Springfield while maintaining services for commuters.

"Sadly it’s a totally different story under Labor.

"If you weren’t stuck in gridlock on the Bruce Highway or the M1 this morning, you were waiting in the rain for trains that didn’t come and replacement buses that didn’t turn up.

"Labor will no doubt make excuses that this morning’s events were unavoidable but that’s bollocks - if we had a road and rail network that worked, Queenslanders wouldn’t be stuck in traffic snarls or stuck on the platform."

The Commonwealth Games start in less than a month and Labor must guarantee the trains will run so we are not embarrassed on the world stage.

"The LNP calls on the State Government to fast track studies into alternate routes for the South East and enact our plan for a second M1 as soon as possible.

"We need to plan for the future now."
