Queensland records lowest business confidence in the nation

20th April 2018

Yet another independent report released today has confirmed the Palaszczuk Labor Government has crushed confidence in Queensland’s business sector.

LNP Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander said the latest quarterly ANZ/Property Council Industry Sentiment Survey revealed Queensland’s property sector has the lowest confidence in the nation.

"While there has been a slight upturn in confidence nationally, the respected survey shows that businesses in Queensland’s property sector rate the Palaszczuk Government as the worst performing state government in the nation," Mr Mander said.

"If confidence is low – businesses won’t invest in Queensland and that means fewer construction jobs for our sparkies, chippies and plumbers.

"Business confidence will be further shattered once Labor’s half a billion dollars’ worth of new taxes hit the industry as part of the first state budget."

"… Queensland is still experiencing the lowest sentiment in the country. This shows the industry remains concerned about the direct impacts of the Queensland Government’s land tax increases. Imposing further taxes on an industry that already pays 53.7% of government taxes, fees and charges, is bound to hurt confidence."

Executive Director of the Property Council, Chris Mountford

"Labor’s five new taxes will hit the property industry like a sledgehammer," Mr Mander said.

"Annastacia Palaszczuk should be doing everything she can to show that Queensland’s open for business so that more jobs can be created and wages can grow.

"Instead she’s slugged Queenslanders with five new taxes that will serve as a massive handbrake on business, putting jobs at risk.

"Labor never understands that you can’t tax your way to growth."
