Labor ignores regional police

16th October 2018

LNP Shadow Minister for North Queensland and Burdekin MP Dale Last has slammed Annastacia Palaszczuk for failing to order a review into the resourcing of regional police stations following the recent Alva Beach tragedy.

“When asked in Question Time today, Annastacia Palaszczuk categorically ruled out a review of police resources, in light of the recent Alva Beach tragedy,” Mr Last said.

“The safety of local residents will continue to be put at risk while Labor cut resources to frontline police.

“How can they expect officers to protect the community when crime is on the rise and local officers are struggling to cope?

“Our police officers and emergency services staff work extremely hard but are left under resourced and understaffed by the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

“What happened in Alva Beach was an absolute tragedy, but it could have been prevented.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Mark Ryan need to front up and explain why they are not reviewing regional police resources.

“The Alva Beach tragedy is on the back of a $44 million cut by Labor to the police budget this year.

“It’s the job of embattled Police Minister Mark Ryan to ensure police have the resources they need and he continues to fail miserably.

“We need more cops on the ground, not more cuts.”
