Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington is encouraging children and students from across the Nanango electorate to take part in the 2026 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is open to children and students from early childhood through to Year 9, inviting them to discover the joy of reading. The challenge continues to champion a lifelong love of books, encouraging young Queenslanders to explore new stories, expand their imagination and build strong literacy skills.
Last year, Queenslanders collectively read an incredible 1.9 million books as part of the Premier’s Reading Challenge – an outstanding achievement that reflects the enthusiasm and dedication of students, educators and families right across the state.
“As someone who personally loves to read, I strongly encourage all schools, early childhood centres, families and carers to get behind this year’s challenge,” Deb said.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to inspire young Queenslanders to read for pleasure and learning, while continuing our shared commitment to improving literacy across the state.”
“Let’s make 2026 another record‑breaking year and continue fostering a love of reading right across the Nanango electorate,” Deb said.
The 2026 reading period will run from 11 May to 28 August, coinciding with the end of the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week. Early childhood centres can participate during the dedicated period from 17 to 28 August 2026. Certificates will again be awarded to all participants who complete the challenge.
