Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has welcomed the Treasurer’s commitment to fund the upgrade of Back Creek Bridge on the New England Highway at Cooyar.

Deb has passionately advocated for the urgent upgrade since 2017.

“For years my calls for an upgrade to this single lane bridge went unanswered by the former Labor Government and I am extremely proud to be delivering such a vital project for my patch,” Deb said.

“I know how many people rely on this bridge every day and its dangers have been overlooked for far too long.”

“Labor left behind an $8 billion road maintenance backlog and this project marks a meaningful step towards greater road safety in regional Queensland.”

Treasurer and Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki said the Crisafulli Government knows how crucial it is for major upgrades to take place.

“This is important to me because I’ve driven this road with my family my entire life,” Mr Janetzki said.

“Deb feels the same and has fought tirelessly to deliver this for the community.”

“Planning work for the upgrade is continuing and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.”

“My job as Treasurer is to ensure important projects like this are funded and that’s why I will be fully funding the Back Creek Bridge.”
