Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington was excited to welcome Kingaroy State High School student Matti Van Schnydel to Parliament as part of the Student Budget event.
Matti was selected to represent our region and joined students from across Queensland for a hands-on learning experience on budget day.
The students gain insight into how revenue, including taxes, funds essential services, and how governments balance competing priorities while engaging with stakeholders.
A highlight of the experience is the opportunity for students to share their ideas and provide advice to the Premier and Treasurer on what should be included in the budget.
“It’s fantastic to see students like Matti taking part in such valuable opportunities and representing our region so well.” Said Deb
“It was lovely to have a familiar face in Parliament and to see Matti so engaged in learning about the State Budget and the important role government plays in delivering for communities.”
“Importantly, the program empowers young people to see how they can make a difference and have a positive influence in their local communities” Deb said.
The program gives young people a practical understanding of how the State Budget works and how government makes decisions. Students learn about the role of government, departments and portfolios, and how the budget shapes priorities, including within the Department of Education.
