Happy 5th Birthday Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

Happy 5th Birthday Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

22nd August 2023

Time really has flown since the official opening of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail five years ago!

There is no doubt that the Rail Trail has grown from strength to strength over that time and it has become a ‘bucket list’ item for cyclists, horse riders and hikers.

It has also created an economic boost for the townships along the trail and we’ve seen the growth of new tourism businesses and opportunities.

I am proud to have worked alongside the Somerset Regional Council, and key Rail Trail advocates like Paul Heymans, to support this unique asset for our region.

Here’s to even more success for the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail for many, many years to come!

Deb encourages Somerset to have say on SEQ Regional Plan

22nd August 2023

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington is encouraging anyone interested in the future planning of the Somerset Region to have their say on a review of the SEQ Regional Plan.

Mrs Frecklington said the original SEQ Regional Plan was completed in 2017, and the current review is an important opportunity for the community to have input into this document.

“It is essential the community has their say about this planning document as it will shape the future of the Somerset,” Deb said.

“Anyone with an interest in planning for our townships and the future of development in the region should consider providing feedback for this review.

“Submissions are open until 20th September 2023 and can be made online https://shapingseq.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/.”

“You can also book an online ‘talk-to-a-planner’ session or register you interest for one of the community consultation sessions.

“If you have any questions, or would like to raise any particular issues in relation to the planning process with me, you can also contact my office on 4190 7100, or email nanango@parliament.qld.gov.au,” Deb said.

Labor adopts LNP Meningococcal B Policy

4th August 2023

It has taken too long, but today I welcome the news of a new policy placing the Meningococcal B vaccine onto the free vaccine schedule from 2024.

In 2018 I met Zoe McGinty’s Mum Kirsten. Sadly Zoe, at just 20years of age lost her life to this deadly disease. Kirsten was raising awareness for Meningococcal vaccinations and it was an honour to attend her event.

I felt so strongly about this that I announced this as an LNP policy commitment.

Thank you to Kirsten for your commitment to raising awareness of Meningococcal #goforzo

South Australians have had free access to this vaccine since 2018, but until now the Palaszczuk Labor Government has stubbornly refused to provide it to Queensland children.

Finally, Queenslanders will now be able to access it.

I also want to thank Currumbin MP Laura Gerber who has also been instrumental in fighting for this vaccine to be made freely available.
