Meet Deb this weekend in the South Burnett

31st October 2017

LNP Member for Nanango, will be travelling across the South Burnett this weekend to catch-up with locals and discuss issues important to our region.

Deb will be at her stall at the Nanango Markets on Saturday morning (4th) and will also be in Murgon and Blackbutt on Sunday (5th).

“My stall at the Nanango Markets will be in its usual place near the canteen area, so I’d encourage people to come along and talk to me about issues affecting them,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I’m particularly keen to hear about what’s important to people at the moment, things like the

cost of living, electricity prices, access to health services and the conditions of our roads.

“On Sunday morning I’ll be at the Murgon Music Muster, and will hold a mobile office at the park in the centre of Murgon near the rotunda, before I travel down to Blackbutt around lunch time, where I’ll be at Les Muller Park.

“You can make an appointment through my office on 4190 7100, or just come down for a chat anytime,” she said.

LNP to invest $5m upgrading Cooyar Bridge

LNP to invest $5m upgrading Cooyar Bridge

31st October 2017

LNP Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has announced that an LNP Government will invest $5 million to upgrade the dangerous single-lane Cooyar Bridge on the New England Highway.

Ms Frecklington said the Cooyar Bridge, located just to the south of the Cooyar township, has been in desperate need of widening for many years.

“The Cooyar Bridge is located on the busy New England Highway, which is the major route between the South Burnett and Toowoomba,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I know how many people use the New England Highway every day, and this dangerous single-lane bridge is on my priority list for complete replacement. The upgrade will include a brand new bridge and a re-alignment of the approaches to improve visibility.

“The LNP is serious about the safety of regional motorists, and a new Cooyar Bridge will go a long way towards making a journey on the New England Highway much safer.

“The upgrade will form part of the LNP’s Royalties for the Region Program. This program aims to boost jobs and help regional communities meet critical infrastructure needs.

“Queenslanders will rightly ask themselves, ‘Can I afford another three years of a Labor Government which has increased family car rego by over 10 per cent and overseen wholesale electricity cost rises of 70 per cent.”

LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said only the LNP’s Deb Frecklington will deliver this project for the people of the Nanango electorate.

“Only a vote for Deb Frecklington will see this vital project delivered,” Mr Nicholls said.

“Deb has been a tireless worker and a vocal local community champion.

“A vote for anyone other than the LNP will see a return of a do-nothing Labor Government which has the wrong priorities.

“Upgrading the Cooyar Bridge and re-aligning this dangerous section of the New England Highway is all part of our plan to Build a Better Queensland by building a better Nanango.”

LNP to create 500,000 new jobs under its economic plan

30th October 2017
  • The LNP will create 500,000 new jobs for Queenslanders over the next decade
  • LNP’s six economic drivers are: tourism, agriculture, resources, construction and manufacturing, services, science and technology and education
  • The LNP’s comprehensive economic plan includes lower taxes for families and businesses

A Tim Nicholls-led Liberal National Party Government will restart our state’s economy, creating 500,000 jobs across Queensland over the next decade.

Mr Nicholls today released an economic plan for Queensland that would lower taxes for families and businesses and build the infrastructure Queensland needs.

“We will create jobs and grow the economy by cutting taxes, delivering cheaper electricity, building the infrastructure Queensland needs, getting young people into work and unleashing the potential of the private sector,” he said.

“The LNP will deliver on our 500,000 jobs target through our comprehensive policies for Queensland’s six economic drivers: tourism, agriculture, resources, construction and manufacturing, services, science and technology and education.

“Lowering taxes for families and businesses is at the core of the LNP’s economic plan.

“If businesses are weighed down by increasing costs they can’t grow and won’t employ more Queenslanders.”

Mr Nicholls said Labor’s mismanagement of the state’s finances had cost Queenslanders jobs and opportunity.

“Under Labor we have seen Queensland’s domestic economy shrink, business investment plummet and business confidence at the lowest level in the nation,” he said.

“Despite all the crowing by Annastacia Palaszczuk, the cold, hard facts show 30,000 jobs were lost last year on her watch – our worst year on record.

“This is simply not good enough and totally unacceptable – Queenslanders, especially young people, have lost hope under Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor.

“Today, I can unveil how an LNP government I lead will get us back on top.

“First and foremost, we will build the roads, bridges and dams Queensland needs.”

Mr Nicholls said the infrastructure projects the LNP would announce over coming weeks would boost productivity, open up transport and commerce corridors and ensure Queensland became an economic powerhouse again.

“These projects will change the state,” he said.

“I want to been known as the Premier who literally built a better Queensland.

“Without a strong economy, governments can’t provide better services in our hospitals, a better education for our children or invest in new technology and equipment to help police protect our communities.”

LNP’s FISCAL PRINCIPLES:

  • Maintain a competitive tax environment for business
  • Stabilise debt over the economic cycle
  • Target general government sector fiscal balance
  • Target full funding of long-term liabilities such as superannuation on an accounting basis in accordance with actuarial advice

Lynham blames weather and lies about fire ant briefing

27th October 2017
  • Labor’s Acting Agriculture Minister lies about offering briefing on fire ant program
  • Labor has form blaming others for their own incompetence and have now resorted to blaming the weather for their mismanagement of the fire ant program
  • Labor have treated the agriculture sector with disdain over the past three years

Labor’s Acting Agriculture Minister Dr Anthony Lynham’s attempt to blame rain for the government’s failed management of the fire ant program was a new low even for them.

Shadow Agriculture Dale Last said the unacceptable delays in identifying and then treating fire ants had been part and parcel of Labor’s management for far longer than just the past two weeks of wet weather.

“For the Acting Minister to attempt to blame the rain for the delays in treatment is ludicrous and simply laughable,” Mr Last said.

“As a medical professional he should know the dangers a fire ant bite poses to young children and the elderly.

“But what can Queenslanders expect from a part-time minister that is not across his portfolio and is more interested in advancing his medical career on taxpayers’ time and money.

“His personal attack on me for raising the situation is also pathetic, not to mention his claim that he contacted me and offered to provide a briefing on this issue which is a outright lie.

“My office has been contacted by numerous landholders and farmers who are genuinely concerned about the total mismanagement of the fire ant program – particularly the very long and unacceptable delays in identifying and treating nests.”

Mr Last said he had also been contacted by park rangers who are equally concerned about the failures and the risks to the general public.

“The Acting Minister wants to blame the rain, me and everyone else for this serious issue but what he’s again failed to do is address any of the real issues I have legitimately raised including why nests have not been treated at the same time as identification,” he said.

“But that is what Queenslanders have come to expect from this do-nothing Labor Government that has treated the agriculture sector with disdain and farmers like criminals for the past three years.”

Mr Last said there was plenty of good will in the South-East Queensland community to work with the government on the eradication program which had recently received a massive federal funding commitment of more than $400 million.

“We need to ensure the very best procedures are adopted and that includes working closely with local landholders, farmers and park rangers utilising their skills in identifying and treating nests as soon as practical and not wasting resources in overly-bureaucratic and mindless practices,” he said.

Mr Last said the government recently advertised for a senior biosecurity manager to oversee and run the fire ant program.

“Here’s hoping the selection criteria includes common sense, honesty and a real desire to work with landholders, farmers, park rangers and members of community and ending the ridiculous delays in identifying and treating nests.”

Wide Bay young people losing hope under Labor

26th October 2017
  • Youth unemployment in Wide Bay has skyrocketed to 26%, an 8% rise since Annastacia Palaszczuk became Premier
  • Tragically under Labor, one in every four young people in the Wide Bay is now unemployed
  • Overall unemployment in the Wide Bay has also increased to 9.1%, with 200 jobs lost in the past month, 1,300 in the past year

Young Queenslanders are continuing to suffer under this do-nothing Palaszczuk Labor Government, with the youth unemployment rate skyrocketing to 26 per cent in the Wide Bay region.

LNP Shadow Treasurer Scott Emerson said today’s regional unemployment figures were more evidence that unemployed Queenslanders, particularly young people, are losing hope and opportunity under Labor.

“Labor’s jobs crisis has hit especially hard in the Wide Bay with more than 200 jobs lost in the past month and 1,300 in the past 12 months,” Mr Emerson said.

“The youth unemployment rate would be even higher if 1,400 young people hadn’t given up looking for work in the past year. A massive 1,700 youth jobs have been lost in Wide Bay since Labor was elected.

“The Premier claims her Government cares about ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’ but she’s silent on the fact that young Queensland jobseekers are simply giving up hope under her government.”

Shadow Employment Minister Jarrod Bleijie said young Queenslanders deserved better from Annastacia Palaszczuk.

“These figures show in black and white that Labor’s jobs mantra is nothing more than a con job,” Mr Bleijie said.

Mr Bleijie said the LNP’s Get Queensland Working program would reduce the cost of working for young apprentices and offer financial incentives for businesses that train and retain staff.

“Unlike Labor, with a jobs program that has produced only a fraction of the work needed in the Wide Bay region, the LNP has consulted with industry and developed a real plan that will create jobs today,” he said.

“The LNP’s $100 million Get Queensland Working will create up to 20,000 jobs for young Queenslanders through financial incentives for businesses which take on young apprentices and vouchers for young tradies to buy their tools whether they’re a hairdresser, a carpenter or a pastry chef.”

Lynham full of bluster – but fails to answer on fire ant treatments

26th October 2017
  • Labor’s stand-in Ag Minister unable to answer simple questions about fire ant managemen
  • tFarmers, landholders and park rangers complaining about major delays in treating identified nests but no explanation from do-nothing Labor
  • It’s no wonder fire ants are spreading when it’s taking four, six and eight week delays

Labor’s stand-in Agriculture Minister Dr Anthony Lynham was full of bluster but very short of answers on fire ant management in Queensland Parliament this week.

Asked a simple, common sense question on treatment protocols, Dr Lynham clearly had no idea and instead stooped to nasty, personal attacks.

LNP Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Dale Last said the Palaszczuk Labor Government yet again seemed to be mismanaging the Fire Ant eradication program.

“My office has been contacted by farmers, landholders and park rangers all concerned about the protocols being used by this government in firstly, identifying, and then the serious delays in treating fire ant nests,” Mr Last said.

“Dr Lynham, in his new role as Labor’s revolving-door Minister for Agriculture, might think it’s smart to bluster and criticise, but the four, six and eight-week delays between identifying and then treating these ant nests are simply ridiculous.

“You would have thought Dr Lynham would have taken a legitimate and reasonable question about this exotic pest seriously.

“Sadly no. The farmers and landholders around Rocky Point, the Lockyer Valley and Logan who have contacted my office are rightly concerned over the mismanagement of the fire ant program as these pests continue to spread.

“The facts show that Labor has been in charge of this program for the best part of two decades and the ants just keep spreading.

“It really is no wonder given the attitude of the Ministers in charge, including the latest stand-in who loves the self-promoting photo ops but when it comes to any serious consideration or management becomes invisible.”

Mr Last said fire ants were not hard to identify and why the government continued to send out teams of staff to identify and flag, but not treat for many weeks defied logic.

The evidence is in: Labor’s 50% RET will kill jobs at Stanwell

24th October 2017
  • New analysis exposes that Labor’s crazy 50 per cent Renewable Energy Target will shut down power stations across the nation and threaten thousands of Queensland jobs
  • Analysis of modelling prepared for Federal Climate Change Authority (CCA) reveals 75 per cent, or fifteen, of the nation’s existing power stations will close under Bill Shorten and Annastacia Palaszczuk’s crazy green energy target
  • Before an election is held, Annastacia Palaszczuk must guarantee Stanwell won’t close

Today’s analysis of modelling prepared for the federal Climate Change Authority proves that Bill Shorten and Annastacia Palaszczuk’s crazy 50 per cent Renewable Energy Target (RET) would kill thousands of jobs in regional Queensland and send power bills soaring even higher.*

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington said today’s analysis had exposed the disturbing truth that Labor’s policies would threaten the future of Stanwell in the South Burnett.

“Today’s revelations will send shockwaves through every community across Queensland with a coal-fired power station,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“Labor’s crazy green scheme signals the death knell for Stanwell and the loss of South Burnett jobs.

“Clearly Annastacia Palaszczuk cares more about grabbing green votes in Brisbane and getting re-elected than she does about saving jobs in regional areas – it’s a disgrace.

“The Premier needs to come clean with our community and guarantee Labor’s mad rush to renewables won’t shut down our local power station.

“If she can’t or won’t she clearly cares more about her own job than the jobs of thousands of Queenslanders.”

Deb said today’s analysis exposing that Labor’s 50 per cent RET would push up Queenslanders power bills by another $200 was a total embarrassment for the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk’s measly 96 cents a week rebate will be totally eclipsed by the $200 a year hike in bills this report forecasts,” Deb said.

“This week’s sham of a power policy from Labor was nothing more than an election eve con job from a government desperate to cling to power.

“The same money they say will fund their measly rebates has already been spent, and the real kicker is that under Labor’s plan your power bill will still go up.

“The choice at the next election could not be clearer – vote for the LNP’s real plan to bring power prices down or vote for Labor’s electricity con job where they take with one hand and give you back crumbs with the other.”

The evidence is in: Labor’s 50% RET will push up power bills by $200 a year

24th October 2017
  • Analysis of modelling prepared for the National Climate Change Authority (CCA) exposes that Labor’s 50 per cent RET will push power bills up by $200 a year and almost $2000 across the next decade
  • Same analysis shows Labor’s energy policy would shut down the majority of coal-fired power stations in Australia, killing regional jobs
  • Electricity consumers now expected to be $300 a year better off under Malcolm Turnbull’s National Energy Guarantee than under Labor’s crazy RET plan

Today’s damning analysis of energy policy prepared for the Climate Change Authority proves Bill Shorten and Annastacia Palaszczuk’s crazy 50 per cent Renewable Energy Target (RET) will kill thousands of jobs in regional Queensland and send power bills soaring even higher.

LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said analysis of modelling prepared for the CCA exposing that a 50 per cent RET would add $200 a year to the average Aussie power bill was a total embarrassment for the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk’s measly 96 cents a week rebate will be totally eclipsed by the $200 a year hike in bills this report forecasts,” Mr Nicholls said.

“The analysis of this modelling also clearly shows consumers will be $300 a year better off under the Coalition’s National Energy Guarantee, than they will be under Labor’s mad rush to renewables.

“Not to mention the forecasts that a 50 per cent RET will shut down most of Queensland’s power stations, killing thousands of jobs in regional Queensland.

“Today’s revelations will send shockwaves through every community in Queensland with a coal-fired power station.

“Labor’s crazy green schemes will kill power station jobs and small businesses in places such as Rockhampton, Gladstone, Biloela, Nanango, Chinchilla and Milmerran.”

LNP Shadow Energy Minister Michael Hart said today’s revelations prove under Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor Queensland families and businesses will continue to pay record high prices for electricity.

“This week’s power sham from Labor was nothing more than an election eve con job from a government desperate to cling to power,” Mr Hart said.

South Burnett dental health waiting list sky-rockets under Palaszczuk

24th October 2017
  • Dental waitlists blowing out in South Burnett thanks to Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor
  • In the past year, the number of people waiting between 12 months and two years for general dental care in the public system has sky-rocketed from 11 to 494*
  • Only 13 per cent of Category 2 patients being treated within the recommended waiting time

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, says there has been a dramatic blow out of the Kingaroy Dental health wait list, and she has seen an increase in people complaining about the wait time to receive dental health care.

“Figures show that in the past year, the number of South Burnett locals waiting between 12 months and two years for general dental care in the public system has sky-rocketed from 11 to 494.

“Nanango residents are now waiting longer and longer for access to public general dental care under this incompetent Palaszczuk Labor Government.

“With so many people complaining to me, I lodged a Question on Notice in Parliament in May this year about wait times are the Dental Clinic. Since then, I have also written directly to the Minister asking for the urgent consideration of strategies to start reducing these unacceptable wait times*.

“Of huge concern are the Category 2 patients who are waiting longer than 90 days to receive treatment. In fact, only 13% of people in this Category are being treated within the recommended waiting time**.

“There are people whose health is being severely affected by not being able to see a dentist. When you have dental problems, you cannot eat property, and this then causes other health problems. For example, some of the people who have contacted me have diabetes and they find it very hard to manage their condition when they can’t chew the foods they need to eat.

“These rising wait time statistics are typical of a Labor Government. Under the former LNP Government, we undertook a blitz on dental wait lists and reduced by thousands the number of people across the Darling downs Hospital and Health Service District. The reduction was a great achievement and in fact, it was the first time since the 1990’s that no-one was waiting more than two years for treatment.

“But figures are rising rapidly and I am worried for these patients who have a very long and frustrating wait to improve their dental health,” Deb said.

“All this from the Labor party that claims to care for Queensland’s most vulnerable – what a terrible joke.

“Only the LNP has a plan to provide better services for families and build a better Queensland – so you and your family can get ahead.”

Labor’s electricity money merry-go-round continues

23rd October 2017
  • Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor have been caught out using electricity as a secret tax
  • Queenslanders have never paid more for electricity, with the money merry-go-round continuing under Annastacia Palaszczuk
  • If Labor were serious about lowering electricity prices, it would freeze electricity bonuses, put consumer reps on boards and ditch the 50 per cent rush to renewables

Today's electricity announcement from Annastacia Palaszczuk and her embattled Energy Minister is nothing more than a money merry-go-round, says LNP Leader Tim Nicholls.

“Labor has been caught out using electricity as a secret tax and is now handing some back on an election eve,” Mr Nicholls said.

“Under Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor, Queenslanders have never paid more for electricity and now they are being told prices will continue to rise.

“Labor is going to give struggling Queensland households a bit of cash and hope they don’t notice that they have been ripping them off.

“If Annastacia Palaszczuk were serious about lowering electricity prices she would adopt the LNP policies of freezing electricity bonuses, putting consumer reps on boards and ditching the 50 per cent headlong rush to renewables.”

Mr Nicholls said the main costs hurting Queensland families were the network and wholesale energy costs, completely controlled by the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

“Under Annastacia Palaszczuk, Government-owned company Stanwell was caught gaming the system and ripping off Queenslanders to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars,” Mr Nicholls said.

“Dividends from Government-owned generators have nearly doubled under Labor; that’s because Labor has been gaming the market and wholesale electricity costs have increased by 70 per cent.

“There is not a family or business in Queensland that isn’t already doing what they can to conserve power because of the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s record high power prices and secret energy tax.

“Queenslanders can’t afford another three years of Labor, record high power prices and Labor’s favours to unions.

“The lights are clearly off at Queensland Labor when it comes to energy.”

Coominya’s new Community Garden officially open

Coominya’s new Community Garden officially open

19th October 2017

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, has officially opened the brand new BVP Community Garden in Coominya.

Mrs Frecklington joined with Director of the Brisbane Valley Protein (BVP), Selena Gommersall, to celebrate with neighbours of the project.

“Initially, neighbours of the project from West Road will have access to the garden as the project enters this first stage. Not only will they be able to grow their own wonderful fresh produce, but it will be a social hub, helping people to connect and enjoy the many benefits of physical and social activity,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“Over time, the garden will be opened to the wider community and will become a great resource for the Coominya district.

“Community gardens have seen enormous success in so many communities and I have no doubt this Coominya project will be equally successful.

“Local schools will also be a part of growing this Community Garden, which will expand across approximately two hectares.

“I’d like to congratulate Brisbane Valley Protein on this very first stage of their larger project.

“It is literally just a taste of things to come for this exciting project in Coominya,” she said.

Labor’s scaremongering starts on tree clearing laws

17th October 2017

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, says in true Labor form, the Government has re-started its campaign to tighten tree clearing laws in an effort to win city and green votes.

Mrs Frecklington said Labor had released distorted vegetation management figures designed to paint farmers as environmental vandals.

“We all knew Labor would start the anti-farmer tree-clearing campaign again in the lead up to the next state election,” Mrs Frecklington.

“And right on cue, Labor has released the 2015-16 State-wide Land and Tree Cover Study (SLATS) in an effort to trash the reputations of farmers and landholders in the eyes of urban Queenslanders.

“In 2016 the LNP worked to over-turn the tighter regulations Labor wanted to impose, and we’ll lead the fight again to ensure our primary producer’s voices are heard.

“This is a major issue for people of the Electorate of Nanango and I will do all I can to support my community,” Deb said.

The LNP’s Shadow Minister for Natural Resources, Andrew Cripps, says Annastacia Palaszczuk was clearly she’s more interested in green preferences than the truth.

“Yet again Labor has deceptively included practices such as fodder harvesting to feed starving livestock and clearing firebreaks and fence lines as ‘broad scale land clearing’ in a deliberate attempt to inflate clearing figures,” Mr Cripps said.

“With more than 80 per cent of Queensland officially drought declared for the whole of this SLATS reporting period, Labor’s happy to kick struggling farmers when they’re down.

“And all the while Annastacia Palaszczuk turns a blind eye to the ranting of her left wing Cabinet colleagues because she knows she needs to win seats in the city to save her own job.

Mr Cripps said the 2015-16 SLATS report did contain data that provides clear context to the extent of vegetation management activities, but these were conveniently ignored by Labor.

“About 50 per cent of Queensland is covered by woody vegetation, so the vegetation management activities in this SLATS report represent just 0.23 of the state - less than half of 1 per cent,” he said.

“If you just consider that area of Queensland covered by woody vegetation, the total management footprint represents about 0.45 per cent of that area – which is still less than half of 1 per cent”.

“The SLATS report does not, however, take account of the vegetation that regrows at a great rate each year on Queensland’s farming and grazing land – it never has and until it does these figures will never be an accurate representation of the health of habitat for Queensland’s native animals.”

Mr Cripps said the Liberal National Party would continue to defend farmers against Labor’s unfair attacks – just as it did when it defeated Jackie Trad’s attempts to roll back the LNP’s balanced vegetation management laws last year in Parliament.

“Make no mistake, the LNP led by Tim Nicholls will stand by Queensland’s hard-working farmers every step of the way when it comes to vegetation management,” he said.

“Our laws were sensible and balanced and allowed farmers and graziers to get on with the important jobs of producing our food and fibre, and protecting Queensland’s precious environment.

“Under the LNPs laws landholders need a permit to manage vegetation and have to abide by codes of conduct to undertake routine management procedures. It’s not the open slather that Labor lies about.

“Today’s disgraceful distortion of the facts by Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor make it very clear that they will always, always throw farmers under the bus to win an election and protect their own jobs.

“Only the LNP will stand up for farmers against Labor’s constant attacks.”

Network of bridges to support Linville farmers

Network of bridges to support Linville farmers

12th October 2017
  • New two-lane concrete bridge in Linville, Queensland officially opened today
  • The Harry Carey Bridge will improve links for local farmers and while also increase flood immunity
  • Another five bridges were officially opened at the same event

Farmers and trucking businesses in the Upper Brisbane Valley will be able to transport heavier loads more directly following the opening of the Harry Carey Bridge in Linville today.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the new bridge will be able to carry most commercial loads; ensuring local farmers can get goods to market quickly.

"Previously, local freight operators were load limited by the single lane timber bridge. This upgrade has delivered an almost 24 metre long, two-lane, concrete bridge," Minister Nash said.

"I aim to build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and providing a good transport network for does that."

Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace said he was pleased to see the Coalition Government investing in regional transport links, with today marking the official opening of six bridges.

"For a region like ours, having access to good transport links is essential, not only for reducing the travel times to major cities, but also helping us to connect with nearby towns and neighbours," Mr Wallace said.

"Harry Carey Bridge was delivered under Round 2 of the National Stronger Regions Fund, while the five remaining bridges, such as Larkhill Boundary Road in Lark Hill, were delivered through the Australian Government’s

Bridges Renewal Programme."

Mayor of Somerset Regional Council Graeme Lehmann said the Harry Carey Bridge upgrade had already paid dividends for the community by creating nine jobs during construction, and said the bridge upgrades were a boon for the community.

"Upgrades to these bridges has resulted in improved access and increased safety, delivering economic and social benefits for Somerset," Cr Lehmann said.

"Our bridges need to carry heavy loads to support our farmers and Council is committed to providing a strong rural road network for our residents and visitors."

Statement from LNP Shadow Police Minister Tim Mander - Lever Action Shotguns

12th October 2017

The Queensland LNP will continue to back former Prime Minister John Howard’s sensible gun laws.

Tonight’s disallowance motion in the Queensland Parliament was nothing more than a political stunt by the Katter’s Australia Party (KAP) who are desperate to distance themselves from the Labor Government they have faithfully served for the past three years.

Importantly, the regulations passed by Queensland Parliament tonight deal only with lever-action shotguns.

Law-abiding primary producers and firearm owners will still have full access to the weapons required for day-to day management of their properties.

The new regulations don’t change the definition of ‘lawful modification’. Any claims to the contrary are false and misleading.

Those who currently hold a lever action shotgun can apply for an exemption and retain their firearms.

The temporary import ban that was put in place by the Commonwealth Government in 2015, remains in place until all states re-classify these firearms as agreed to by COAG.

Ironically, if the KAP disallowance motion was successful, the temporary import ban would have remained in place meaning that these weapons could not be imported.

The LNP will be monitoring the application of these new laws to ensure that law-abiding firearm owners aren’t buried in red tape and unnecessary delays by the Weapons Licensing Branch, as has been the case for three years under the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

While Labor continues to treat law-abiding firearm owners like criminals, the LNP will continue to make sure their licenses are protected and community safety is paramount.

The LNP’s recently released Fairer Gun Laws policy includes:

  1. Restoring proper consultation, through a properly constituted Ministerial Weapons Advisory Panel.
  2. Improving screening processes, with real-time background checks by reforming the application and compliance process so that police can ensure there is a more rigorous system, with a focus on compliance not bureaucracy.
  3. Increasing penalties for gun crime and re-enforcing our approach to cracking down on criminal behavior, not Queenslanders who do the right thing, and;
  4. Respecting the right of primary producers and landholders to apply for category H weapons licenses and be fairly assessed. The current approach by Weapons Licensing Branch has provided great uncertainty and needs to change.

Labor’s farmer bashing begins in lead up to state election

6th October 2017
  • Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor resort to farmer bashing to win election
  • Labor again distorts vegetation management figures to paint farmers as environmental vandals
  • SLATS report still deceptively includes drought feeding and clearing for fencelines and fire breaks as ‘broad scale clearing’

The Palaszczuk Labor Government has resorted to the same old farmer-bashing and figure fudging in another dishonest attack on Queensland’s agriculture sector.

Shadow Natural Resources Minister Andrew Cripps said Labor’s predictable fearmongering over the release of 2015-16 Statewide Land and Tree Cover Study (SLATS) was designed to trash the reputations of farmers and landholders in the eyes of urban Queenslanders.

“Here we go again - on the eve of an election Jackie Trad and Steven Miles release distorted clearing figures that paint farmers as environmental vandals just to win green votes in the south-east corner – it’s shameful,” Mr Cripps said.

“Yet again Labor has deceptively included practices such as fodder harvesting to feed starving livestock and clearing firebreaks and fence lines as ‘broad scale land clearing’ in a deliberate attempt to inflate clearing figures.

“Clearly she’s more interested in green preferences than the truth.”

5th October 2017

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, will be holding a Mobile Office at the Nanango Markets this Saturday 7th October and is keen to chat with locals about current issues.

“I really enjoy heading to the Nanango Markets each month. It’s one of the largest inland markets with hundreds of stalls and thousands of people attending.

“My stall will be in its usual place near the canteen area, so I’d encourage people to come along and talk to me about issues affecting them,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I’m particularly keen to hear about what’s important to people at the moment, things like the cost of living, electricity prices, access to health services and the conditions of our roads.

“Bookings aren’t essential for my Mobile Office, so anyone can pull up a chair and fill me in on issues they’d like to highlight with me.
