Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Deb

21st December 2018

As we approach the festive season and the New Year, I would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and health, happiness and prosperity for 2019.

As your local State Member I am always fighting for positive outcomes for our community. Here’s just some of the achievements in the South Burnett, Gympie and Somerset regions:

  • Securing a weekly Community Health Nurse for Kilkivan
  • Fighting for extra policing resources to tackle the crime wave in the South Burnett
  • Meeting with stakeholders and experts about water infrastructure projects
  • Opening new classrooms at Blackbutt SS and a new Hall at Kingaroy SHS
  • Putting the Labor Government on notice about the unacceptable delays for people waiting for their Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme reimbursement
  • Supporting the Kingaroy Concerned Citizens Group in their fight against the proposed Kingaroy Coal Mine
  • Supporting rural women through the 25th QRRRWN Conference in Kingaroy
  • Hosting future South Burnett leaders at Parliament House for the Red Earth Foundation’s ‘Making Change Happen’ Study tour
  • Petitioning the State Government for upgrades to the D’Aguilar Highway (between Kilcoy and Woodford) and calling for a speed limit reduction on the Brisbane Valley Highway at the Old Mt Beppo Rd intersection

  •

Recognising the Somerset’s longest serving JP’s in a special ceremony at Esk
  • Opening of the final section of the Brisbane Valley Rail trail (between Toogoolawah and Moore)

  •

Opening of the new Police Station in Kilcoy
  • Fighting for the Moore community to ensure the local police station re-opens

  •

Working with the concerned landholders regarding the Harlin solar farm development
  • Fighting on behalf of primary producers against Labor’s unfair changes to Vegetation Management Laws.

Much of this work would not have been possible without the ongoing support of community groups and individuals, and I pass on my thanks for your assistance to make them happen.

I would also like to acknowledge the devastating fires at Woolooga Toogoolawah and recent severe storms at Kumbia, Coolabunia, Kilcoy and Tansey. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this devastation, but I know our community is resilient and much work has already taken place in the recovery effort.

Around the Nanango Electorate there is still much to be done and you have my assurance I will continue to fight for our region and our communities. If I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at the Electorate Office on 4190 7100 or nanango@parliament.qld.gov.au. From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!
