Congratulations Jacob! Deb announces Winner of School Leavers Bursary

28th March 2022

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, has announced Jacob Sutton, a graduate of Saint Mary’s Catholic College, Kingaroy, as the winner of the Nanango Electorate 2021 Year 12 School Leaver’s Bursary.

Mrs Frecklington said Jacob was one of many high-quality applicants from across the Nanango Electorate who are making the transition to further study.

“The purpose of my School Leavers Bursary is to help make the transition from Year 12 to ongoing training and study just that little bit more achievable for students and their families,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“Jacob is now studying a Bachelor of Information Technology through the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba, with a goal of working in the cybersecurity industry.

“His passion and positivity shone through in his interview and it was such a pleasure to present him with his ‘big cheque’ and hear more about his career plans.

“He explained that this financial assistance will help alleviate some of the pressure on himself and his family in affording university and will help him get a head start and lay a good foundation for future years of study.

“I would also like to thank Mr Keith Campbell who once again assisted me with each of the interviews, and in the difficult task of choosing the Bursary winner.

“All of the applicants were amazing and after speaking with them it is obvious our region is in great hands with the level of commitment and dedication shown by these young people,” Deb said.

Applications for the 2022 Deb Frecklington Nanango Electorate Year 12 School Leavers Bursary will open in early October 2022.

The resignation of Cr Roz Frohloff from the South Burnett Regional Council is a major loss for Nanango and the entire region.

Cr Frohloff was an active and highly professional Councillor who always acted in the best interests of her community.

I understand her decision was an extremely difficult one, however, I know she will continue to be involved in the community through the many groups she supports, and through her role as a paramedic.

Roz was a quiet achiever who deserves acknowledgement for her service to the South Burnett.

On behalf of the community I would like to thank her for her dedication and wish her and her family all the best for their future endeavours.

Booubyjan meeting highlights flood and phone issues

Booubyjan meeting highlights flood and phone issues

8th March 2022

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, has thanked the communities of Booubyjan, Tansey, Kilkivan, Woolooga and Goomeri for attending a meeting on Saturday 5th March to highlight flood and phone issues with Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien and Senator Bridget McKenzie.

Mrs Frecklington said that while the meeting was planned at very short notice about 45 locals came to the Booubyjan Hall to help highlight the impacts of the recent devastating floods and problems associated with poor telecommunications.

“This was a really important chance for these communities to be able to speak directly with Senator Bridget McKenzie, who is the Federal Minister for several key portfolios including Emergency Management, National Recovery and Resilience and Regional Communications,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“With the support of Llew O’Brien and myself, there was a window of opportunity for the Senator to travel to Booubyjan following her visit to Gympie and we were able put together a snap meeting at Booubyjan Hall.

“Senator McKenzie was able to hear first-hand about the two major floods that have hit these regions, the damage they have caused, and how a lack of mobile reception and landline problems hindered the unfolding emergency events.

“She was also able to personally announce the further $75,000 grants for primary producers, $50,000 for small businesses and not-for-profits and $20,000 for sporting and community clubs affected by the second flood event.

“I would really like to thank everyone who came along and shared their stories.

“We have been able to highlight a massive need in relation to landlines, mobile reception, flood gauges for this catchment and financial support,” Deb said.
