Second worst unemployment rate in the country shows Labor isn’t working

18th April 2019

The Palaszczuk Labor Government doesn’t have a plan to get more Queenslanders working, following the release of alarming new unemployment figures today.

Data by the Australian Bureau of Statistics saw the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate (Labor’s preferred measure) jump from 5.4% to 6.1% from February to March.*

LNP Deputy Leader and Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander said Labor isn’t working.

“Almost 10,000 Queenslanders were added to the jobless queue,” Mr Mander said.

“While 162,000 Queenslanders are out of work and looking for a job under Labor.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk’s priorities are all wrong.

“Her Government has slugged Queenslanders with five new taxes, the cost of living has soared, infrastructure spending is down and transport is a mess.

“This out of touch Palaszczuk Labor Government has no plan or vision for the state.

“Only the LNP will invest in Queensland, boost jobs, restore confidence, bust congestion and improve the economy.

“Labor can’t spin their way out of this one.

“I feel so sorry for the thousands of Queenslanders heading into the Easter long weekend without a job.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jackie Trad have completely lost touch and Queenslanders are suffering as a result.

“We have the second worst unemployment rate in the country thanks to them.”
