Certainty needed on single-use plastic ban

10th June 2022

The LNP is calling on the State Government to outline a clear path forward for businesses to transition to more sustainable packaging.

It has now been over four months since consultation on the next phase of the ban on single use plastics ended and nine months since the first stage began and yet the Minister still hasn’t given us a plan.

Queenslanders overwhelmingly support eliminating unnecessary plastics but small and family businesses, as well as community groups, need support and resources to help them with any changes.

Most importantly, they need a clear timeframe to manage their stock, find alternatives and determine their budgets.

The government needs to understand the impact this has on Queenslanders and to show them the respect they deserve by giving them as much time as possible.

I call on the Minister to be upfront with Queenslanders about this important change so we can make our state more sustainable and take people on that journey instead of leaving them scrambling.
